Listen for the same beginning

I can say sun and sock; listen for the shared first sound.

Let’s get started

Today we will explore listen for the same beginning through play. Grown-ups can model it first; children can respond by pointing, moving, speaking, or drawing. There is no speed test.

Learn together

  1. Watch together: Say sun and sock; listen for the shared first sound.
  2. Try it as a team: Retell or predict in your own words. Pause, repeat and let the child lead.
  3. Try once more in a new way: Look at the pictures as your grown-up reads. Celebrate the attempt, not perfect results.

  2. Try it again: Say sun and sock; listen for the shared first sound. Tell your grown-up which part was fun or surprising.
  3. Draw, point, move, or talk to show what you learned about listen for the same beginning. Adults can record an observation instead of requiring writing.
